| Sounds like Tomato Hornworms have found your tomato patch. These are large (3-5 inch) green caterpillars with white stripes on their sides and a brownish horn on the top backside. These guys are larvae of a large moth. You can hand pick and destroy them, or use the botanical insecticide called Bt (Bacillus Thuringiensis) to control them. Bt is a stomach poison so the caterpillars will continue to feed until the bacterium start to work. Since they're so large, they're easy to spot and remove by hand. Next year plant dill with your tomatoes - they feed on dill, too, and are easier to see on the whispy dill leaves. |
