The Q&A Archives: Planting Hydrangeas

Question: When is the best time to plant hydrangeas? Especially the peegee variety...

Answer: Container-grown hydrangeas of all kinds can be planted any time the ground isn't frozen. Bare-root hydrangeas however should be planted in early spring. Fall is an excellent time to plant shrubs because the roots can grow until the soil temperature drops. This gives the plants a head start next spring.
