I raised Brandywine tomatoes from Burpee this year for the first time. I found that if I don't get out there and pick the fruit within a day of its being ready, it rots on the vine. Is this the nature of the beast or is Brandywine just not a good variety for Oklahoma? Can you suggest another pink tomato for our weather?

Well, none of us have had our "normal" weather this year, thanks to El Nino, but you may have better luck with a hybrid variety. Odoriko VFNT Hybrid is an indeterminate, pink-fruited variety that produces medium to large round fruits. They won't reach the size of Brandywine, and their flavor is different, but they may do better in your area than the old heirloom. You can order them from Tomato Grower's Supply Co., PO Box 2237, Fort Myers, FL 33902, ph# 941/768-1119. Enjoy!
