Justicia californica, or Chuparosa, is a deciduous sub-tropical shrub native to the Colorado desert and parts of Arizona and Mexico. It's a low, gray-green shrub (2-5 feet high, spreading to 4 feet) with arching branches and small, roundihs, 1/4 inch leaves. The plant is grown for its bright red, tublar flowers that bloom in April and May. . The plant prefers full sunshine, average soil, and droughty conditions in the summer months. |
