My pumpkins are orange already. The stem is turning brown. Is there anyway I can keep them till fall without them rotting? Should I pick them or leave them on the vines? |
It takes weeks and weeks for pumpkins to ripen even after they have turned color. Leave them on the vine as long as possible because a light frost makes them taste better and also helps with the ripening process. The "field test" for ripeness is to try to pierce the skin with your fingernail. If it goes in, it's not ready yet. |
