Galvanized metal has been used for planter boxes and planter liners for many years. The metal shouldn't affect the veggies you're growing. (Old milk cans were made of galvanized metal and used to transport milk from milking shed to processing plant.) The only caution in using metal containers is that they're very thin-walled and they'll heat up quickly if placed in direct sunlight. This radiated heat could burn the roots of the plants.
