We didn't expect our gourd vines to spread so much and they grew over our bushes. My mother feared that they would damage the bushes and cut back. Will they be o.k.? The remaining part of the plant is fine but should I do something like fertilize?

The vines will be just fine after being pruned back. This will force the plant's energy into ripening the fruits that are left on the vines, instead of growing more vines and leaves. It's getting pretty late in the season to fertilize the plant. Just keep it well watered and it should finish the season without problem.
