As the new owner of a home, I'd like to plant some trees in my barren backyard. They MUST be hurricane proof! I'd like them to grow fast and provide shade from the hot summer sun. Please don't suggest any that might only last a decade or so, I'd like to grow old with them.

There is no tree at all that is hurricane proof. If the winds are strong enough, especially when a tree is very young or very old, it is going to go down. The best you can do is to choose a tree that is sturdy by nature (maples, oaks, pines) is suitable to your landscape (you don't want a tree that is going to grow to 70' in an urban backyard), and correctly sited (where, if felled, the tree will do the least amount of damage). You may want to consult a local landscaper or arborist to find out which trees have the best track record for your area.
