The Q&A Archives: Yucca Seed Starting

Question: My yucca plants have produced seed pods for the first time. When can remove the pods from the plant so that I can try to grow more plants from seed? What do you recommend for a soil mixture to get good results?

Answer: Yucca seeds can be germinated if you have lots of patience. Collect the seeds after the seed pods have turned brown (this will ensure mature seeds). Germinate in moist seed starting mix by placing the seeds on top of the mix and pressing them in with your hand. The seeds need light to germinate. They will sprout in 30-365 days if kept at 65F - 75F degrees. Good luck with your project!
