The Q&A Archives: Dahlias in Winter

Question: Can I leave my dahlias in the ground in New Jersey?

Answer: No. Dahlias are only hardy in zones 9 and 10 so they will freeze to death if you leave them in the ground for the winter. It's a bit of work to dig and store them so some gardeners simply replace them every year.
