| If your watermelon passes most of these tests, it's probably ready to harvest: the tendril on the stem is dried up, the bottom has a yellow patch, it has a nice sound when you thump it, and the glossy green rind has developed a dull haze. (Sometimes referred to as a bloom - grapes and plums get the same look when they're mature). Experience is the best way to tell when melons are ripe, and the only real way to gain experience about your melon is to cut it open and taste it! |
