Vetch is an excellent green manure cover crop! It's best planted in late summer or early fall, at a rate of 1-2 punds per 1000 square feet. Vetch captures and fixes nitrogen in the soil, and adds organic matter when it's tilled under in the spring. Be sure to mow it down before it flowers in the spring!
