The Q&A Archives: Artichokes

Question: I live in Phoenix, AZ and I'm considering adding artichokes to my garden this year. Do I need to plant more than one to be able to bear fruit? Sheila Siecinski Phoenix, AZ

Answer: The part of the artichoke you eat is actually the flower bud, so no, you don't have to have two plants to get a flower bud. Pollination isn't an issue. Of course if you plant more than one you can impress your friends and family at dinner by saying "I grew ALL of these"!.
