The Q&A Archives: Yard-Long Beans

Question: Have you ever heard of yard- long beans? It is a really long green bean.used in Asian cooking. I had seen them in Thailand and bought some in Yakima, but they are difficult to find. I'd like to find some seeds and know their real name. Thank you. Pam Yakima, WA

Answer: Yes, yard-long beans are real. They really are "yard long," and are available to grow in this country too. I also lived in Thailand for awhile and remember eating them often and seeing farmers grow them. You grow them like pole beans, on trellises. They are available from, Nichols Garden Seeds 1190 North Pacific Hwy. Albany, OR 97321-4580 (541) 928-9280.
