The Q&A Archives: Growing Redwoods

Question: Is it possible to plant and grow redwood trees in Allentown, PA?

Answer: Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is not quite winter hardy in your area; the tree also really needs a more humid atmosphere such as that found in the British Isles or our Pacific North West. A related tree, the Sierra Redwood (Sequioadendron giganteum) survives in Pennsylvania, however.
