Is there a groundcover that is tough? I have a small area that is my dogs play area and I don't want to have to mow such a small spot. Will anything withstand punishment?

There are several groundcovers that will put up with frequent foot traffic, and keep right on looking great. If it's a sunny area, try Arctostaphylos (creeping Manzanita), Arenaria (Sandwort), or Euonymus fortunei (Winter Creeper). If the site is shady, try Epimedium, Galium odoratum (Sweet Woodruff) or Lysimachia nummularia.
