Answer: I'd suspect that caterpillars have found your new plants. Unless you see them feeding, though, they're difficult to eradicate. You might want to protect your newly planted broccoli with some floating row cover material while the plants are still young (to exclude the flying pests like cabbage worms that seem to hone in on broccoli and other cole crops). Since broccoli doesn't need to be pollinated, you can leave the floating row cover on for the entire season. Enjoy your broccoli!
