I planted a rhododendron two years ago. It has never bloomed. Now it has large pineapple looking buds on it. They have been there several weeks and are growing. Are these going to flower? |
Rhododendron flower buds take almost a full year to develop before they're ready to burst forth with color. The buds on your plant are in the final stages of preparation for this event, but they will probably not open until next spring. If they do open this winter, it simply indicates that the plant is somewhat confused. As it continues to become established in your yard, and to mature, it will get on track and bloom in the spring when it's supposed to. There's nothing you can do - except enjoy the beauty of the blooms. |
