The Q&A Archives: Commercial Flower Growing

Question: We grow vegetables commercially and want to expand into cut flowers. Which varieties grow well in this middle part of TN? Could you advise us of easy field-grown flowers that are also popular sellers. We would like at least 6 different varieties. Wesell primarily at the farm and at farmers markets. I plan on starting the seeds in the greenhouse and transplanting them to the field. We would like to start with 1/4 of an acre. Do you have commercial prices for your seeds? Thanks. Paulette Estes Manchester, TN

Answer: The most popular and profitable flowers you can grow in Tennessee would include, Zinnia 'Giant Dahlia', Achillea millefolium, Ageratum, Malva sylvestris zebrina, Snapdragon and Verbena bonariensis. Ball Seed Company would be able to give you wholesale prices. Call them at 800-879-BALL..
