The Q&A Archives: Winter Gardening

Question: What vegetables are best in a winter garden here in Southern California?

Answer: Although your winters are mild, and almost anything will grow year around, you'd do best to plant cool-season type veggies such as cole crops (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli), root crops like carrots and radishes, and leafy crops like spinach and lettuce. Stay away from the heat-loving tomatoes, peppers and squash.
