You can plant cool-season crops like lettuce, spinach, radishes, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower and still have time to harvest before the worst of the winter weather arrives. Most any veggie that does not form flowers that forms fruit are good choices for winter crops. If early frost threatens, cover the tender-leaved crops with a floating row cover. Cabbage and other cole crops don't seem to mind frosty days, but spinach and lettuce will wilt. Cover them if frost threatens. |
