| I am starting seeds under artificial light with heating pads to keep the soil at about 70 degrees. How long, after the seeds germinate, should I continue to heat the soil? Room temperature is about 70 degrees but the soil is much cooler without the heating pads. |
| Not all seeds have the same germination requirements. In fact, some seeds germinate better in cool soils. If the seeds you're starting require warm soils, you can use artificial bottom heat, such as seed-starting heat cables or pads. Once the seeds sprout you can turn off the bottom heat and place the seedlings under a source of bright light. The heat is only necessary to encourage the seeds to sprout and to develop roots. |
