My arborvitae are established and were planted last fall. Is it a good idea to feed them in the fall?

Generally it's better to fertilize evergreens in the spring. You could use either a balanced granular fertilizer or an organic fertilizer such as "Scott's Organic Compost" according to the label instructions. In the meantime, be sure to keep them well watered up until the ground freezes. (If in doubt, check the soil with your finger.)
