You can divide and transplant rhubarb in the spring or fall months. Choose a sunny, well-drained garden site and dig a planting hole 3' wide and 3' deep to accommodate the mature roots. Mix the removed soil with generous amounts of aged manure or compost. Refill the hole partway and set the crown of the plant so it's about two-inches below the soil level. Add two-inches of soil, tamp the soil down and water well. The plant should spout in the spring. Once the new leaves appear, apply mulch to keep the soil moist and to help suppress weeds. |
