My gardenias, grown in containers outside on the patio all have brown edged petals right after they bloom. The plants are otherwise seemingly pretty healthy and growing well.

Your plants might benefit from some shade during the hottest part of the afternoon. Since they thrive on humidity, try misting the leaves, or sprinkling them lightly in the mornings to increase the humidity around the plant. Keeping the soil moist, especially when the plants are in bloom, will help, as well. Gardenia's are demanding, but when all of their growing requirements are met, they'll reward you with lots of fragrant blooms.
