| You might be referring to Anigozanthos manglesii, also called kangaroo paws. These plants have iris-like leaves and large flowers. Here's one description: "...has flower stalks covered with velvety, bright crimson wool, and 3-inch-long blooms, similarly clothed, that are bright green with red bases. The style protrudes....yellow kangaroo paws, A. flavidus, has 1 1/4" flowers that are less showy [than the crimson variety.]" Does this sound like yours? These plants grow in the wild only in Western Australia. They thrive only in dryish, warm climates where little or no frost occurs--I'm afraid Maryland doesn't fit the bill. But they can also be grown in greenhouses. |
