Sweet Potatoes are generally grown from sweet potato pieces that contain eyes. These eyes will produce vines, and the vines will supply energy to the roots for tuber development. If you have a seed from a sweet potato vine, you can try to make it sprout by gently nicking the seedcoat, soaking the seed for 4-6 hours, and planting it about 1/8 inch deep in moistened seed starting mix. Keep the pot in a warm place and don't let the soil dry out. It should germinate in about two weeks at 70F - 75F degrees. |
