The Q&A Archives: Flowering Plants for a September Wedding

Question: I am having a September wedding outside and would like to have lots of plants and flowers planted. Do you have any suggestions on flowers that will still be blooming in September and when do we need to plant them. Anna Lennon Cumby, TX

Answer: Annuals can't be beat for giving color throughout the growing season. Petunias, geraniums, zinnias, salvia, cosmos, marigolds, etc. will all be still blooming into September in your zone 7. Remember, however, that you must remove the spent flowers to encourage annuals to continue blooming. If you don't, they will set seed and stop producing flowers! but they do give a nice show!! Some others perennials to look for are asters, goldenrod and mums.
