The Q&A Archives: Strawberry Varieties Suited for Fort Worth, TX

Question: What (if any) varieties of strawberries would be best for a Fort Worth garden? This garden also contains tea roses. It is well drained and gets full sun. My main concern is that summer temperatures of 100+ and long periods without rain will limit my ability to grow most varieties, but with the right watering, are there some good choices? Ted Matthews Fort Worth, TX

Answer: I'd go with strawberry varieties adapted in California and the South such as 'Chandler', 'Cardinal' and 'Redchief' and for everbearing varieties 'Quinalt' and 'Fern'. All are available through, Indiana Berry and Plant Co. 5218 West 500 South Huntingburg, IN 47542 800-295-2226
