The Q&A Archives: Controlling Lambs Ear' Weeds in Lawn

Question: How do you get rid of lambs ear weeds? These weeds have taken over our grass and we are looking for a safe way to kill them without harming our dog. Don Kuhn Charlotte, NC

Answer: I'm not sure what weed you mean by "lambs ears". The lambs ears I know is a fuzzy, white leaved, low growing perennial flower with purple flower stalks. You can spread herbicides on your lawn to kill weeds, but without knowing what weed it is, it would be hard for me to tell you which herbicide to use. Also, mow the grass a bit higher (2 1/2 to 3" tall), topdress with 1" of compost and keep it well watered. This will help eliminate weeds and keep them out. The lusher the lawn the less weeds you'll have.
