The Q&A Archives: Unscented Air Cleaning House Plants

Question: Can you suggest house plant varieties (at least six) that would be approrpriate for cleansing the air in a private home without providing an aroma?

Answer: Studies have shown that a number of plants are effective at cleansing contaminants out of the air, but to some extent the effectiveness depends on which contaminants are present, since not all plants work on the same things. You might try some of these relatively odorless, air cleansing foliage plants: philodendron, spider plant, golden pothos, peace lily, corn plant, mother-in-law's-tongue, English ivy, dracaena. These are attractive plants and usually grow well under average household conditions.
