The Q&A Archives: Saltpeter as Fertilizer

Question: I recently found a home recipe for house plants. It included a small amount of saltpeter, which I can not find at any local feed store. Can you suggest a place where it could be purchased? I am really frustrated with my searches.

Answer: Saltpeter is potassium nitrate, sometimes used in curing meat. You might try a local drug store or a farmer's co-op in your area. Good luck in your search!
