I have heard that someone has used banana peels with roses. My question is "What does this do for the plant?" Is it just a form of mulching, or does this act in some way to nourish the roses?

Banana peels contain small amounts of potassium, which might aid in the formation of flower buds. Used as an organic mulch, the peels might attract flies and rodents if left uncovered, but otherwise would be useful to your roses. Just to be on the safe side, cover the peels with soil, compost, or a layer of leaves to keep mice and flies from snacking on the peels.
