The Q&A Archives: Hosta Care

Question: Do hosta plants die back during the winter and come back in the spring?

Answer: Hosta plants have perennial roots and tender leaves. When winter cold kills the foliage, remove it from the plant and mulch the bed lightly with organic mulch. New hosta leaves will emerge in the spring, after the soil warms.
