For the last two years I have grown luffa sponge plants. Flowers grow on the plants but, never develop into vegetables. What went wrong?

Luffas are a kind of gourd and thrive under similar growing conditions to those of winter sqash. Since your vines have flowered, they should produce. I suspect a pollination problem may be the cause. These vines have male and female flowers and need to be pollinated, usually by insects. If you are using row covers to exclude pests or are using chemical pest controls, you may be preventing pollination also. You might try hand pollinating by brushing a male flower against a female flower, or by using a small brush to spread the pollen from flower to flower. Good luck with your luffas!
