The Q&A Archives: Searching for Information on "Planting Clocks"

Question: Do you have any information on a "Planting Clock" built in the 1970's? This is referred to in the Farmer's Almanac. Thank you. Joy Felber Deposit, NY

Answer: I have heard of the "planting clock" and a number of gardeners over the years have asked about it, but I've never found a design that has plants that open at different times in the day. I suppose you could construct one roughly on the idea that 4-o'clocks open in late afternoon, flowering tobacco opens towards evening and many other flowers such as daylilies open in the morning. But for an exact design, I'm sorry I don't know of one. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more information.
