It's now late December. What action can I take NOW to prepare my garden for a successful crop next year ? Specifically, what can I add to the soil now that will enrich the soil so that the plants will have enough food to grow?

One of the best things you can do for your garden soil is to run some basic soil tests. These will tell you how your soil is now and you can then determine what amendments (if any) would optimize your garden in the future. Your County Extension can help you with the tests and with interpreting the results. (In Morris County the number is 285-8300.) Winter is a good time to run the tests because the labs tend not to be so busy!
