I am looking for information on pinching plants for flower enhancement. I'm interested in which plants, how to do it, when to do it, etc. |
Generally speaking, most annuals and perennials benefit from having spent blooms pinched off, along with some of the stem and foliage. Regular pinching keeps plants compact and neat in appearance, and encourages the development of additional flowers. Some plants, such as chrysanthemums, can be forced to produce one large bloom instead of a cluster of smaller blooms, by careful removal of developing flower buds around the topmost bud. Since each plant differs in its requirement, the timing and methods would differ from plant to plant. Hope this information helps! |
