The Q&A Archives: Source for Tree and Shrub Seeds

Question: I am trying to find a source for all kinds of seeds for trees and shrubs, as well as information on how to grow trees and shrubs from seeds. Why is it so difficult to find a source and information about trees and shrubs from seeds?

Answer: There are two primary reasons most people don't try to grow their own trees and shrubs form seed. The first is the long time it takes to get them to an acceptable size. The second is the fact that some plants (shrubs especially) are special varieties which must be rooted from cuttings, grafted or budded as they will not reproduce true to form from seed.

Here are sources of a wide variety of tree and shrub seeds:

Lawyer Nursery, Inc., 950 Hwy 200 West, Plains, MN 59859 (406) 826-3881, Fax (406) 826-5700.

SBE Seed Co., 3421 Bream St., Gautier, MS 39553; 1-800-336-2064 Fax: 228-497-6544;
