| There are two primary reasons most people don't try to grow their own trees and shrubs form seed. The first is the long time it takes to get them to an acceptable size. The second is the fact that some plants (shrubs especially) are special varieties which must be rooted from cuttings, grafted or budded as they will not reproduce true to form from seed.
