I planted the seed of Florence Fennel I purchased from you last year. All I received was the fennel seed as a herb instead of the stalks of which I really wanted. What was the cause of this? Is there another seed I should purchas to obtain stalks to eat?

The European specialty-type bulbing fennels are grown specifically for their larger bulbs which can be eaten as a vegetable, where Florence Fennel is generally grown in herb gardens. Varieties to look for might include "Rudy" or "Zefa Fino", but in any case it should be described as a bulbing type. One source is Johnny's Selected Seeds (http://www.johnnyseeds.com) or (207)437-4301. Enjoy!
