The Q&A Archives: Growing Tomatoes in Hot Climates

Question: There are so many varieties of tomatoes! Which ones would we have the most likely success with here in North Palm Beach in the summertime?

Answer: In the deep south tomatoes are a spring and a fall veggie. A few brave varieties will struggle through the infernal heat of summer, but production almost shuts down completely.

As a group, cherry fruited types do better in the heat. For a larger fruited type, try Burpee's 'Heatwave II'.
