[ Midwestern Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius var. intermedius 'Nugget') | Posted on July 4, 2019 ]

Nugget is one of those ninebarks to be used in tough growing conditions-- seems to handle any soil or water conditions. In half-way decent conditions is a very vigorous grower, quickly getting 6' x 6'. Better leave room for it because after pruning will quickly grow back.
Leaves emerge a nice golden yellow in spring, but do tend to lose some of the gold and become more lime-colored. Flowers don't contrast well with the foliage, but are nice. A solid, dependable background shrub for most any growing conditions.

[ Eastern Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius Diabolo®) | Posted on July 4, 2019 ]

Most ninebarks are "go-to" shrubs for tough growing conditions and Diabolo is one of them. Handles most any growing conditions quite well. Blooms are actually fairly showy, with nice circular clusters of tiny white blooms that contrast beautifully with the dark foliage. When done blooming the flowers turn red providing continued interest. In my experience Diablolo grows significantly more tall than wide. I was told to expect 8' by 8' but the width has struggled to get much beyond 4-5'. I have not noticed color changing/fading of the leaves. This is an excellent choice for a dependable background shrub in most any growing condition-- especially the tough ones.

[ Spirea (Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound') | Posted on July 4, 2019 ]

Snowmound spirea is a classic. When it is small, rabbits love to eat its branches in the winter. Vigorous grower. Awesome show of blooms, but only for about a week or two.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Windham Tropical Waters') | Posted on December 1, 2018 ]

Every year there is always a poly bloom among the first blooms. Unfortunately all blooms of this plant have had a tendency to be blotchy and weakly colored for me. Has struggled to increase clump size. Might be that it wants more premium soil conditions, and/or a more southern climate.

This vigorous plant is the most prolific bloomer I currently grow. It blooms and instant re-blooms. Quantity of blooms is amazing. Then it rests a bit and re-blooms again until frost. In Michigan. Amazing!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Big Beautiful Babe') | Posted on November 21, 2018 ]

This daylily is a top-notch landscape plant. Tough as nails, handles tough winter exposure and summer drought with ease. Vigorous grower. Monstrous scapes with lots of blooms that have great color. It is a winner.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Tower Power') | Posted on November 21, 2018 ]

This is a great landscape plant. Vigorous and tough. Blooms are consistently perfect. Surprisingly large number of blooms for being so large. Puts on a great show for a long bloom period.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'U Know U Want Me') | Posted on November 21, 2018 ]

This plant has surprised me by becoming one of my favorites. It is pretty much flawless in my opinion. Vigorous, quickly growing into a large clump. Floriferous, with lots of well branched scapes loaded with buds. Blooms always are perfect, and photos don't fully capture the gorgeous deep color of the blooms. A great one.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Patricia Woody') | Posted on November 21, 2018 ]

This plant is tough and a prolific bloomer. One of the first to bloom here so would almost call it early season. It is growing with some tree-root competition here and that could be the cause, but the blooms always seems to have problems: petals not opening fully and poor coloration. Just never delivers a good show of blooms.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Purple Pansy') | Posted on November 21, 2018 ]

Growing this plant for 4 years now and I think every single bloom has been blotchy. The tip of the bloom opens early, allowing water and insects to get in, causing blotches. It is a very tough plant, but never delivers a nice show of blooms.
