[ Double Daffodil (Narcissus 'Obdam') | Posted on May 12, 2018 ]

These keep coming back, but they seem to be very sensitive to heat because the last couple of years the buds dried up before opening. This year a few opened, but as soon as we had a hot day the remaining buds bolted. I have them in afternoon shade and there are plenty of other daffodils planted with them that do not have the same problem.

[ Spineless Prickly Pear (Opuntia engelmannii var. lindheimeri 'Ellisiana') | Posted on August 18, 2017 ]

Purchased one from a local Nursery, I thought I was buying Eastern Prickly Pear (Opuntia humifusa) which looked similar in my memory.
Upon entering it I see no references to it being hardy in Zone 5 so we shall see.
Tag Info Says:
Hardiness Zone 5 (-20°F) to Zone 8 (10°F)
Exposure: Full Sun
Height: 24" (61 cm) tall
Spacing: 12" (30 cm) apart
Bloom Time: Early Summer
Water Needs: Requires excellent drainage, drought tolerant.
Striking Yellowish-orange flowers attract butterflies to the garden. The evergreen pads of this variety are nearly thornless. A beautiful and novel choice for dry rock gardens, stone walls and perennial gardens. Thrives in poor soils; will spread considerably in ideal conditions.
