[ White Sage (Salvia apiana) | Posted on September 23, 2014 ]

White sage is one of the plants I have to grow in a pot indoors to get it through the winter in Zone 4b. I keep it pruned way back (harvesting the leaves helps with that) and it seems to do well -- as long as it never sits with "wet feet!"

[ Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum tectorum 'Atroviolaceum') | Posted on September 10, 2014 ]

Lynn & Co: I received the plant I photographed and uploaded today from Sequim Rare Plants, titled only Sempervivum 'Atroviolaceum.' Let me know if it's in the wrong category... Thanks! MR

[ Maximilian Sunflower (Helianthus maximiliani) | Posted on September 9, 2014 ]

This sunflower was growing around the old (1810) farmhouse when we moved in. It is very reliable and very cheerful. Sometimes it survives as a cut flower, but it is chancy. It fights it out with mint every summer and the battle seems to be a draw. It could become invasive, but the roots are close to the surface of the ground and pull out easily. It's hard to see how anyone would want to get rid of it!

I'm not sure I have it in the right place, though, so if someone sees my photo and can tell me where else it might belong, I'll be most grateful.

Thanks!

[ Lantana (Lantana camara 'Buttercup') | Posted on September 1, 2014 ]

Lantana 'Buttercup' has become a winter houseplant for me. Last year I rooted a cutting to winter over; this year I brought in a small plant from one of those cuttings that had spent the summer outside. It does very well indoors, recovering quickly from being pinched back to keep it bushy, and just as quickly covering itself again with blooms. It is one of the most cheerful winter plants we have!
