[ Bleeding Heart (Lamprocapnos spectabilis) | Posted on December 7, 2011 ]

Bleeding heart is one of the very first plants that we bought when we moved to Colorado, because I love them and you can't grow bleeding hearts in Arizona, LOL! Every year we are amazed that an even bigger and showier plant comes from what became nothing over the winter. It is the first breath of spring and early summer, very happy in zone 5. Full sun.

[ Ice Plant (Delosperma cooperi) | Posted on December 7, 2011 ]

We bought small ice plants a few years ago for our (then) new heather bed. We planted a few... and they grew, and grew, and grew! We've since added them to other beds because they are such great plants! Great for full sun, they survive our zone 5 winters with flying colors... great ground cover and pop of color, AND they bloom all summer long!

[ Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) | Posted on December 7, 2011 ]

I inherited a pretty large bed of echinaceas when we bought our place here in Colorado. Initially I wasn't a big fan, but year after year they grow and bloom and add a big burst of color... and they are great as cut flowers. Probably the easiest plant I have in any garden. I love them! (And so do the bees!). Very tolerant, full sun.
