[ Chrysanthemum 'Snowscape' | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Snowscape is a hardy mum here in zone 4a and is extremely beautiful with its white to lavender coloration. It also seems to be a bit smaller than many of the hardy mums, which is good for me since my yard is not very large.

[ Sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile Autumn Charm™) | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Autumn Charm is one of my two favorite upright sedums. It remains upright, doesn't flop, and the variegated foliage is very attractive all season. I have had this variety for over six years and there has been no reversion whatever so far. I haven't found a single plain green leaf yet. It blooms a very pretty light pink.

[ Sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile 'Mr. Goodbud') | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Mr. Goodbud is one of my two favorite upright sedum varieties. It remains upright and blooms prolifically in a darker and brighter pink than Autumn Joy. The foliage has a very attractive purple tinge.

[ Spike Speedwell (Veronica spicata Royal Candles) | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Royal Candles is a heavy and long blooming plant in my garden. If deadheaded, it will bloom continuously from early summer to late fall. It does not seem to be prone to powdery mildew as other veronicas are.

[ Late Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata Quick Fire®) | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Quick Fire is my favorite hydrangea (I also have Limelight, Little Lime, Tardiva, and Endless Summer). It always remains upright and shapely and has attractive reddish stems. It begins to bloom bright white in the summertime, earlier than any other panicle hydrangeas, then begins to turn light pink and eventually red. It has a fragrance while it is white but loses it as it turns color. It is very easy care and does not demand frequent watering once established.

[ Daisy Flowered Mum (Chrysanthemum x morifolium Mammoth™ Lavender Daisy) | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Mammoth Lavender is a beautiful mum, but you must allow room for it in your garden. It has grown too large for the spot where I planted it. It also needs to be divided every other year or it will split and not grow upright. It is a nice color and blooms a bit earlier than other hardy mums in my garden.

[ Thunberg's Bushclover (Lespedeza thunbergii 'Samidare') | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Samindare is one of those "wow" plants in my garden. In two seasons it has grown from a perennial in a 4-inch pot to a 4-foot-wide cascading shrub-like plant and is blooming profusely. It provides bright late season color with no care whatever.

[ Toad Lily (Tricyrtis hirta 'Blue Wonder') | Posted on September 19, 2016 ]

Blue Wonder is an easy care plant that provides late season interest here in Minnesota. I have them planted on a north facing hillside and they grow with nothing more than benign neglect near large pine trees. The only issue I have ever had is that the tips of the leaves tend to get brown. This year we have had a lot of rain and the leaves look better, so I might try watering them a bit next year if it isn't as wet.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Raspberry Pixie') | Posted on July 11, 2016 ]

Mine gets taller as well. The flowers are small but profuse. It is an attractive color, increases well and the flowers always have good form. While it isn't a bright attention-getting DL, I like using it in my garden.

[ Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina Tiger Eyes®) | Posted on June 29, 2016 ]

It really is a beautiful accent shrub, but I will be making every attempt to eradicate Tiger Eyes from my yard this summer. I have found more than 20 little baby Tiger Eyes up to 30 feet away from the parent, and this is only the third summer that I have had this plant. Though it has been marketed as non-aggressive/non-invasive, I regret having planted it.

[ Celandine Poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum) | Posted on May 6, 2016 ]

My celandine poppies are in a very dry area, under a huge double-trunked cedar tree. They seem to be happy there and self-seed a bit. They do not go dormant for me and will bloom sporadically through the season. The foliage always looks nice.
