[ Strawberry (Fragaria Purple Wonder™) | Posted on May 18, 2023 ]

I bought one Purple Wonder plant last season. I've been reading that they don't set runners very often, but mine did set one. That runner gave me 4 new plants. I now have 5 plants in their second season, and will be getting fruit soon.

[ Petunia Headliner™ Starry Sky Burgundy | Posted on May 20, 2019 ]

I was visiting a small garden center that I go to every spring, when this plant stopped me in my tracks. Photos don't do it justice, it's truly beautiful, and actually seems to sparkle! I couldn't take my eyes off of it, and between the time I chose it and the time I paid and left, five different people asked me about it. (Unfortunately, it was the only one there.)

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Beautiful Edgings') | Posted on August 21, 2018 ]

This daylily is truly beautiful. I've had it for two years now, and while it doesn't multiply quickly, it really stood out this year. After a winter of several sub-zero periods, and during a summer of multiple heatwaves, most of my cultivars developed shorter scapes and fewer flowers. This was the one exception! The scapes grew to about 4 ft., and it bloomed for weeks.
I don't know why it did so amazingly well while the others around it struggled, but it was the best part of this less-than-stellar season.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Creature of the Night') | Posted on July 9, 2018 ]

I have to agree with comments on the weak scapes of this plant. It's beautiful, very hardy, and I love the colors. But this is the first season it has fully bloomed, and two of its scapes ended up blooming on the ground. Next season I will support them, but that's something I shouldn't have to worry about with a daylily.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Sharon's Delight') | Posted on April 30, 2018 ]

This daylily is absolutely beautiful! Very hardy here in Ohio, it doesn't struggle to come back in Spring, like so many others. The colors are deep and rich, though mine seems to be larger than the given specs, with a scape height of about 4 feet. This is the sort of daylily that you want in more than one place in your garden.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Jerry Nettles') | Posted on August 7, 2017 ]

I was pleasantly surprised by how well this plant did for me, and how truly beautiful the blooms actually were. It didn't seem to be affected by its first Ohio winter, it was among my first daylilies to bloom, and it gave me tons of blooms for weeks. Absolutely gorgeous, photos don't do it justice.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Orchid Candy') | Posted on July 27, 2016 ]

Orchid Candy is the very first daylily I ever bought, and the one that sparked my addiction. Not knowing anything about daylilies, I bought it as a bag of roots at a big-box store. I didn't know that these were tissue culture plants until it began to grow; even as a weak plant it was still beautiful, and I was thrilled when it bloomed.
I've moved on to healthy, divided daylilies purchased from reputable growers now, but I loved this one so much that I replaced it with a normal clump from one of my favorite recommended sellers. I look forward to many years of big, beautiful blooms.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Frans Hals') | Posted on July 20, 2016 ]

Frans Hals is a feisty little daylily! The plants I received were so small, only a few leaves each, that I thought I would have to wait until next season to see blooms. They took a long time to start showing new growth, but when they did they put it on very quickly. When three of my four tiny fans started showing scapes, I worried that they were too small to let bloom, but the buds grew like gangbusters and I actually got gorgeous blooms this season. So happy to have this beautiful little thing, and I look forward to many years of its pretty flowers.

[ Cucumber (Cucumis sativus 'Straight Eight') | Posted on July 15, 2016 ]

This is the third year I've grown Straight Eight, which has consistently out-yielded every other cuke I've tried in my zone 6a garden, including Double Yield (which did poorly). And as with every cucumber I've grown, it falls victim to powdery mildew before the season is over; the difference is that it's very productive in the months that it thrives.
Great taste, excellent in salads and for cucumber water.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Bobbing for Poodles') | Posted on July 14, 2016 ]

It seems like I waited forever for my first Bobbing For Poodles blooms, and they did not disappoint! I love the bright, vivid colors and they really stand out in my garden.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Gartenperle') | Posted on July 11, 2016 ]

Gartenperle is a beautiful tumbling tomato, suitable for hanging baskets. Sweeter than most cherries, though it's possible that growing environment can affect sweetness.
Did not fall victim to the early blight that hit my garden this year.

[ Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta 'Moreno') | Posted on July 11, 2016 ]

This is one of the prettier rudbeckias, in my opinion. When the blossom first opens, the outer part of the petals is yellow, gradually turning Moreno-orange and then bronze.
Just as most other rudbeckias, this is an extremely hardy plant, even in a container.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Hush Little Baby') | Posted on June 29, 2016 ]

I ordered this plant as 2-double fans, but what actually shipped to me were a few small plants with only a couple of leaves each. I planted it into a container thinking that I would have to wait until next season to see blooms. Within three days, scapes began to form. My four tiny plants now have three scapes blooming or about to bloom, while still only having a few small leaves. Beautiful small-ish flowers, though perhaps they will be larger next year when my plants are bigger.

[ Pole Green Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris 'McCaslan') | Posted on June 26, 2016 ]

Very productive bean, great taste! This was the first bean I ever grew, and a regular of mine since. It freezes well, so I can enjoy the fresh McCaslan taste through the colder months.

[ Bell Pepper (Capsicum annuum 'Miniature Chocolate Bell') | Posted on June 26, 2016 ]

Miniature Chocolate Bell is one of my regular container plants and does really well in a window box, so it's treated as an annual. Not a hot pepper, but sadly, does not taste like chocolate. One of the few peppers that is easy to grow in my zone 6a yard.

[ Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Micro Tom') | Posted on June 26, 2016 ]

Micro Tom is a cute novelty plant, with very compact branches that set lots of fruit. My granddaughters love the cute little tomatoes, but most tomato lovers are not impressed with the taste.
I grow them almost every year in a window box and they do really well for me.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Funny Valentine') | Posted on June 24, 2016 ]

Beautiful flowers on a very hardy plant. I transplanted these when I first bought them, into containers that are now way too small for them in a position where they don't get enough water, and they are still blooming like crazy. The first few blooms on each plant were larger, and subsequent flowers have been slightly smaller, but there are a lot of them.

[ Grandiflora Semi-Trailing Petunia (Petunia Sunflower Ray™) | Posted on June 23, 2016 ]

Beautiful flowers, yellow trumpet-shaped flowers with deep brown stripes. The scent (of mine, at least) isn't as strong or sweet as the Wave series, but still a wonderful petunia scent.

[ Mint (Mentha spicata 'Strawberry') | Posted on June 23, 2016 ]

This mint has a fantastic scent, strawberry mint with just a hint of chocolate. Even just touching it leaves my hands smelling wonderful!
Very fast grower, could be invasive. I would recommend keeping it in containers.

[ Chocolate Mint (Mentha x piperita 'Chocolate') | Posted on June 23, 2016 ]

This plant is tough! My last Chocolate Mint didn't make it through the winter, so I ordered another small start, which arrived looking dead. I planted it anyway, and within a week it was lush and green.
It's also very invasive, and spreads like, well, a weed. For that reason, I only grow it in containers.
