[ Loebner Magnolia (Magnolia x loebneri 'Ballerina') | Posted on April 23, 2016 ]

Ballerina magnolia is a beautiful tree, but in my zone 5b garden a late frost can kill the buds. So some years it shines and others it does not.

I had always wanted Victorian Lace, so when I finally bought it I was so excited! Having looked at all the lovely pictures in the database, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, it has never performed well for me. I have it in full sun, very well amended soil, mulch (not too close to the crown), and lots of water. In my zone 5b garden it remains the same two fans I originally bought (very reputable vender) with unimpressive blooms.

Chocolate Splash is a really tough but beautiful daylily. In my zone 5b garden it blooms heavily despite poor soil, exposure to strong icy winds in winter, partial shade and too much attention from my dogs. Great plant!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Mary Todd') | Posted on January 11, 2016 ]

Mary Todd is one of my favorite daylilies! It comes through every winter with no problem and I'm in zone 5b freeze/thaw. It's planted in poor soil, part shade and still it performs well every year. Love it!
