Caption: This home hybrid had similar ancestry to my carnivorous specimen. Similar bloom structure, but probably not functionally carnivorous. But no rain or insects to trap indoors.

Caption: A "needle petaled" Zinnia hybrida. Its petals are thin tubes. The beginning of a new strain. Plant in a "cage" protecting it from Kansas winds.

Caption: A possibly carnivorous zinnia. Pitcher petals captured rainwater and drowned small insects. Zinnia petals can absorb foliar nutrients. A visiting insect is visible. Zinnias are capable of some weird things.

Caption: This zinnia had a lot of Whirligig "blood" in it. The "toothy" petal tips are also of Whirligig origin. Whirligigs are a fun zinnia to grow, and cross with your other zinnias.
