Pot Marigold (Calendula officinalis 'Pacific Beauty') is a larval host plant for the Painted Lady butterfly. A short-lived, self-seeding perennial, Pot Marigold is typically grown as an annual. Easily grown from seed and tolerant of most soils, it is cultivated widely. The florets of Pot Marigold are edible, and the plant was also used in many ancient cultures as a dye and a medicinal herb.

Pot Marigold reportedly repels tomato hookworm, asparagus beetle, and some nematodes, making it useful as a companion plant in the garden.

    Culinary use:
Calendula species have been used in cooking for centuries. The flowers were a common ingredient in German soups and stews, which explains the nickname "pot marigold." The lovely golden petals were also used to add color to butter and cheese. The flowers are traditional ingredients in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes. Calendula tea provides health benefits, as well as being delicious.
